| Baby Safety Electrical Outlet Cover Discussions| When did you take the baby gates down in your home? | | We took our baby gates down when my daughter was just about two 1/2 years old. Until that time we had been able to successfully keep her out of the bathrooms and kitchens while unsupervised. And, that made life so much simpler. But, then one day, she learned how to take them down herself or get past them. Perhaps she was just climbing over them. Either way, she would magically appear in forbidden (and previously closed off) rooms with little effort. And, all attempts to keep her out of those areas of the house proved futile, so we just decided to take down the gates and let her in. She even learned how to open locked bedroom doors with a CD-ROM! After that, nothing was safe. And, for the next two years, I had to get rid of anything and everything in those rooms that might prove hazardous to a newly mobile little kid, including my dining room table, all dining room chairs and several overstuffed chairs that she liked to stand in. While it might sound like extreme measures, it worked beautifully for us. Anyway, when did the baby gates come down in your home? Did your little kids ever figure out how to climb over the gates before you finally took them down? What extreme... | |
| | Amazing swimming babies! | | I just watched the most awesome video that shows first an infant, and then a toddler in a pool fully clothed and able to float or swim. The caption at the bottom of the video player is a very apt one...."It looks like the YMCA baby swimming courses really work!" Check it out....you'll be pleasantly surprised! Enjoy!http://insanepictures.com/vid.shtml?0359.htm | |
| | 3 Wheel Prams - Are they really safe? | | I have been thinking about this for a while now, i never bought one coz i thought they were just ugly. I know they are popular with many people especially people who are very active.
My question is, are these 3 wheeled prams really as safe as the manufacturers claim they are?
I only ask because in the past 5 months, there have been 2 deaths here in South Australia alone.
The first was a woman who was talking with her 5 month old son when they pram tipped over & slid in to the river - her son drowned.
The second was less than a month ago, a grandmother was walking her 10 month old granddaughter when, just like the first one, the pram tipped over & slid in to the river (they were on level concrete footpaths so that wasn't the cause)- they got the baby out but she died later in hospital due to lack of oxygen to the brain (i believe).
Does anyone out there in myLot land have one of these 3 wheeler prams & what are your thoughts on them? How safe are they really?
I'd like to hear from people who have one of these prams or from someone who knows someone who uses one - just to get an idea on whether they should be banned coz the fact they tipped over so easily tells me they're far... | |

| | If you are going to move your TV read this first......... | | BABY SURVIVES 100-POUND TELEVISION FALLING ON HIS HEAD....
Just last month, Lacey Iles stepped out to rent a movie, leaving her 6-month-old son Cole home alone with his dad, Bud.
Bud had just set up a new flat screen TV. He put his son down and then attempted to slide his old entertainment center out of the way. He didn't see that Cole had rolled directly in front it.
Suddenly, the 100-pound television came crashing down on Cole's head. Bud says he "can't forget" the sound of the TV falling on his young son's head.
A panicked Bud then called 911. He told the 911 operator that a TV fell on his son's head, and that he wasn't breathing and "looked like he was about to die."..........

| | My baby Fell 2 days in a row! | | I have a 4month old daughter and starting yesterday she has fallen off the bed and today she fell off the sofa. I do not have carpet, actually, I have cement floors! Of course, I looked her over to see if she had any bruises or if it seemed liked anything was broken and, all seemed well. She cried for a few minutes and after that was back to her normal self-smiling and playing. Some professional advice for this situation says that you should only take your baby to the E-room only if your baby is showing signs of internal bleeding or if your baby is acting strange. I really felt bad for what happened and even worse that I hadn't done enough to make sure she was fine. Has this happened to you? What did you do? | |
| | | | Baby walkers illegal in Canada! | | I wanted to buy my 11 month old daughter a walker because she's not very mobile yet and it really frustrates her. My mom told me about something that I had when I was a baby called a walker. I went out to look for one and I found out that they're now illegal in Canada because alot of parents were leaving their children unattended in them and they were falling down the stairs.I don't think it's fair that just because a few parents couldn't watch their kids that I can't own one of these. By the same logic everything is dangerous, jolly jumpers, exersaucers, alot of toys, even crawling around. Are they going to make all of these things illegal too? Ha.Other parents, and parents that have owned one of these, what are your thoughts on this? | |
