Should wanna-be require background checks for child safety?
I was just watching the news, and I got upset when they reported that a two year old child has died in the hospital due to blunt trauma to the head. I know this may sound extreme, but it got me thinking about Child Safety. Since it seems anyone these days can become a parent, I think it might be a good idea to have wanna-be parents go through background checks first. This would ensure the safety of the baby-to-be, even if it might upset the parents. what is more important? This would also prevent irresponsible people from just having kids at the drop of a dime. What do you think? I know it may sound like a good idea in theory, but what about reality?
Child safety on the internet. What do you think?
Do you think children are safe enough on the internet? If you have children, do you trust them to surf the internet on their own or do you watch to make sure? Do you think safety precautions (such as the majority of websites being blocked in some schools, including google images and international newspapers) are a step too far? Any other points you would like to make are welcome!I am taking the subject EPQ in my A levels which means I need to choose a subject and write about it, and so I chose Child Safety on the internet. I think it's an interesting topic as many children seem to complain about the precautions made yet there are a lot of bad places on the internet, and people, so its a two way discussion. For example, blocked websites could save a child from getting into some bad trouble, but they can also disrupt learning! I would really like to hear your ideas and opinions! Thanks a lot!:)
Countries with no child safety seat laws
Well, I know the initial reaction is "absolutely unsafe!" but hear me out. I come from a country where children sit in the car (including infants) without a car seat. There is no law in the country for children to be restrained in a child safety seat. For one thing, although there are many cars on the road, the economy is not as autocentric as in the west. You will see an equal number of other transports on the road as well. Secondly uptill recently people never travelled long distances (and most still don't do) by car like in the US or Uk or other countries. Public transport like trains and buses have a huge network and vacations are usually planned accordingly. The last thing for consideration is the speed. The volume of traffic, condition of roads and the cars themselves, all make it impossible to drive at speeds which are usually normal in the west. On an average most people in my country would be driving at 40 miles an hour (maximum) at least in the bigger cities. Usually even lower speed than that. So even if there is an accident, it is not necessarily fatal. It may look like I am advocating non-use of a child seat, believe me I am not. But at the same time, I feel that...

It also has supplies to record and keep your childs DNA and fingerprints, in the privacy of your own home. As parent/grandparents we never can be too careful, we must protect our children. Anything that helps us do that is a good thing. Happy Mothers Day to all.

Child Safety Seats Not Installed Properly
Many parents are confused about the right way to install a child safety seat despite a rule to simplify the process, a U.S. government agency said.A National Highway Traffic Safety Administration survey said about 40 percent of parents rely on seat belts when installing the car seat, the Insurance Journal said. About 55 percent of parents use the top tether in a vehicle's rear seat to secure their children.NHTSA in 2002 required new vehicles and child seats be equipped with attachments that make them fit together as a key in a lock so a seat belt would not be used. The system, Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, was developed to ensure seats fit snugly and to provide an alternative to using seat belts."LATCH was supposed to simplify child safety seat installation for parents and this study shows that isn't happening," Nicole Nason, NHTSA administrator, said.Even though 55 percent of respondents used the top tether, researchers said "many parents are not yet protecting their children with this technology."More than half of the parents who did not use the upper tether or lower attachments cited a lack of knowledge of the system.
Child safety on the INTERNET
We all know that the internet can be fun and a rewarding experience. There are many wonderful things to see, learn and enjoy. But the Internet also can be a very scary place. What do you say and Why?
