| | Do You Ever Purchase Used Shoes? | | The local Goodwill has a huge selection of used shoes. I browse this section every time I am in the store. There are some really good shoes to choose from. The problem is that I can never seem to find my size, and when I have the good fortune to do so, the shoes aren't comfortable. When purchasing used shoes it is important to remember to check the sole and heel for wear and tear. Often times there are signs of wear on the heel of the shoe. This is caused by the way a person walks. If you are purchasing a pair of shoes and there is a slant on the sole and heel it is advisable to pass them by. Or, if the shoe is of good quality you can take them to be resoled at your local cobbler. | |

| | The bigger they are... | | the harder they fall?Oliver is a goofball - on one paw, he still thinks he's "the baby"; on another paw, he thinks he's the bad boy and on yet another paw he thinks he's a mountain lion!Tonight he thought he was a mountain lion!We were heating up some water for something warm to drink and he went flying thru the kitchen, up the cat tree and into the eyebrow window. Now, when I had that part of the house added on, I made sure they put an EXTRA WIDE sill up there so the cats could get up there safely and, so far, all the falls that I'm aware of have been due to cat fights and getting one up there trapped and jumping off.Not tonight - the goofball tried to turn around, loses his footing, and, after much scrabbling to try and get it back, falls off. He lands on the exercise bike, breaking his fall, which may or may not have been a good thing... he ran off, but stopped on the other side of the kitchen with his right paw up. Now, when he was a little kitten, he'd "sprain" his paws jumping off the bed and he seems to hurt them a bit more easily than most of the other cats, but he was fine a few minutes later.So - (hey Loverbear - I know you can relate!) do you... | |
| | Disabled Parking Bays (and mother&child bays):why do people abuse these spaces? | | This is a great annoyance of mine. I was born with a hereditary illness that is progressively getting worse, I have roughly the same mobility as a toddler taking their first steps and use a wheelchair.Now, I know some people are annoyed that disabled bays (and mother and child spaces)are nearer to the determined destination. I feel cross when I see these bays being used by the physically fit or parents either without their child or with their 18 year old.I would love to have the physical capability to walk more than a few steps; I'd run everywhere if I could and would happily park the car at the back of the car park.There is no excuse to use these extra wide spaces and force people like me to have to abandon my day because I cannot transfer into my wheelchair in an average sized bay.I'd love to hear from anybody who has ever witnessed a bay being used inappropriately and to hear if you said anything. Or if you have ever seen an illegally parked car being ticketed. We saw 2 in a row the other day while we were unloading me. The first time ever let's hope it's not the last. | |

| | Finally a new Pair of shoes | | the rubber on the bottom of my shoes finally got teh best of me, and kept coming off more and more, so I told my husband I needed to get a new pair of shoes.I went to Kohls today and looked at their shoes, and they were having a great sale, I got a 75.00 pair of shoes for under 40.00 after tax.With my feet and if I am on them for extended periods of time and walking, they swell up, so I had to go with a larger shoe, I actually found an extra wide shoe today, and that's what i ended up going with...it felt like there was no arch support, but with my arches collapsing, I don't think I would get it any way I go..So the extra wide, half a size larger shoe won out over the ones that fit my foot better just because I need the extra room in themAnd the added bonus is that I the colors are good colors, so I got a pair of New balance shoes for under 40.00 that I was right thankful for after an afternoon of walking.When did you buy your last pair of new shoes, and what was the deciding factor(s) when you bought them.Mooch | |
